but i tell you what… we are the luckiest people in the world… we just have some of the coolest clients in the world. we all made the best of it and just got some amazing pictures out of it.
as i sit here and sort through all the images i am definitely jealous… that taylor and i dont have cool shots like this. :)
over the next day or so… i will be posting images from the shoot – enjoy and share.

by admin on Mar.02, 2009, under uncategorized

here is our new ad for march. we worked all day in the studio with the people over at kmov – unbelievable how much effort goes into the post production work to pull this 30 second spot together – we were in the studio for nearly 7 hours putting this all together. thank you so much to everyone who was part of making this happen – tom and sean – great job!! also, you may notice a new logo. we are going through a complete rebranding and this is just an early glimpse of what’s to come. we are working with a very talented group in redefining our brand – more to come on that in the next few days – there will be a very new look! hopefully for the better. ;)

please let us know what you think about the ad. it will be running during the day and in prime time during CSI, Dr Phil and the New at 10.

las vegas bridal shoot | fahrner

by admin on Feb.23, 2009, under uncategorized

date | 2.18.09

name| stephen and jennifer
location | las vegas sign graveyard
what a unique place to shoot – the historical sign graveyard in las vegas! we talk about creating unique and memorable images for your home and wedding album and nothing could be truer of this shoot. this was done after their wedding and will provide one of a kind images for their home for sure. sure, we could have done the basin or the arch… but if you ask me… its been way too overdone. by spending just a little bit more… we get to do something truly memorable.
viva las vegas!

watch out for frauds!

by admin on Jan.26, 2009, under uncategorized

think it can’t happen to you? read some of these horror stories from the St Louis Business Journal – the nut of it… people paid for their pictures and NEVER received them or the album or it took over a year before they saw their pictures.

it never ceases to amaze me when we meet with people and you talk to them and try to understand their thought process. i am definitely getting on my soap box here and i apologize in advance – ;) well… only a little.
look, bottom line – this is one of THE most important days in your life! Next milestone… children… first home…etc – you get the point. fast forward 5 years… 10 years… what will you have to remember your big day… there is only one thing – PICTURES. Sure, i am a photographer and this seems self-serving – but its an undeniable fact. talk to anyone who has worked with us and they will agree whole-heartedly.
there are studios in town claiming to do your wedding for $500 or $800 – WHOA RED ALERT!! Seriously, think about it. NOT possible. there is and will be a catch. If, you met a guy and he offered to sell you a new car for $500 would you buy it? if so, I have a bridge in ny to sell you. ;)
here are some basic questions you must ask yourself.
1) do I know who will my photographer be? Some studios in town – i am not naming names… Trotter – sorry that slipped out – will play the shell game with you. You have no clue who your photographer is the day of your wedding and the person who does your engagement session is rarely the person who will be there on your wedding day. think this isn’t a big deal? there is a significant relationship and bond we have with our clients – we are vested in your day – we share a vision for your day – what it will look like, where we will go, etc. this comfort, trust and vision is all lost when a stranger shows up on your wedding day. and you are now working with a photographer who doesn’t have the ability to work on his own… translation – inferior skill set and part-time job. RED ALERT.

2) what’s included? rarely will these companies give you a full package for this price – there are all sorts of add-ons and catches. for example, these advertised rates… usually only include 4 hours of coverage and no album or engagement session. by the time you add an album, full day of coverage which by the way is usually about 10hrs, an engagement shoot, etc – you are at the rates of an actual professional photographer. our packages are all inclusive – we dont play the shell game – you get full coverage, an album, an engagement shoot and the owner of the company.
3) two shooters or one? something rarely thought about until its all over. next time you go to the movies – watch the screen looking for the different camera angles. trust me… it matters. we can only be in one place at a time. when you are walking down the aisle – do you want to catch the expression as he lays eyes on you for the very first time? that look can NEVER be recaptured. to do this… you need multiple shooters – one on the bride and one on the groom and this is just one of the many reasons two shooters make the difference.
if this hasn’t been enough to scare you into thinking long and hard about the importance of photography on your big day… i don’t know what will be.
all i can tell you is that we have re-shot 4 brides from other photographers in 2008 that were absolutely disgusted with their wedding pictures from them and decided to redo them with us.
i look forward to hearing your thoughts on this… so if you are reading this post… please sound off and add a comment.

wedding show season is over!!

by admin on Jan.26, 2009, under uncategorized

we have done 3 bridal shows in the last 3 weeks and i am pooped!!! we love our brides… but finding the handful of brides we want to work with in the sea of thousands who walk past our booth is a daunting task.

taylor and i are extremely excited for the 2009 season – lots of awesome couples we are working with – high energy and full of personality.
so, here’s to a great 2009 – may all your wedding plans be smooth and exactly what you had hoped for! {clink}… thats the toast to my favorite drink right now – captain and coke. ;)

stuttle | engagement

by admin on Jan.23, 2009, under uncategorized

Amy and Matt – what a great couple! We had so much fun today and a special thanks to the Four Seasons downtown for letting us shoot there – even though we didn’t have permission. :) What a gorgeous view – if you have the opportunity to dine here or if you are looking for a beautiful and unique venue – this place is a definite must to check out.

Now back to Amy and Matt – these two were about as silly as could be and are definitely a fit for one another. We braved the cold and what seemed like 40mph winds to get the shots! Great time and looking forward to the wedding. Enjoy.

another make-up disaster

by admin on Jan.14, 2009, under uncategorized

this is probably my least favorite thing to write about – but i am a big fan of learning from the mistakes of others. something to think about… you spend tens of thousands on your big day – from the dress to the photographer to the perfect table setting, etc – you pay attention to the most minute details… why skimp on the make-up??

in many ways, all the effort you put forth is for nothing if your makeup is bad.
i am working with a family of ours right now and they are concerned with the skin tones of the bride – and rightfully so – she is washed out in most pictures and her skin tone is off compared to those of others in her bridal party.
the main issue – the makeup used was not camera ready makeup and as a result, has some reflective properties in it that reflect light. I promise everyone reading this – I dont own stock in a makeup company or get kickback from our makeup artists – there is a huge difference in the makeup you wear everyday and the makeup used for professional pictures or video work.
and so my point in all this… if you are going to spend all this money on pictures, cake, food, etc – why not spend the extra $100-$200 to get your makeup done and done right?
even if you don’t wear a lot of makeup – having a good foundation ensures you are not shiny or washed out when the flash hits your skin.
please let us know if you have any questions around this – we will help guide you in the right direction to ensure your images represent the real you and not the washed out version! ;)
